Expectacy x Value Theory- Nephi is a good example of someone motivated to seek spiritual and temporal knowledge because he had a high value of spiritual guidance (1 Ne. 2:16) and such great faith (1 Ne. 2:16) that he had a high expectation that the Lord would answer him and grant unto him his desires. Examples: How to obtain the plates, Where to go to get food, How to build a ship, etc. Joseph Smith is another good example with high motivation
- Laman, on the other hand, did not value spiritual things (1 Ne. 7:9-12) and did not have a high expectancy that the Lord would answer him and therefore had low motivation to learn spiritually.
- Mark 9:23-24 also talks of another man who sought a miracle from Jesus. He had high value but low expectancy which often times results in not even asking in the first place.
- Perhaps the Pharisees had high expectancy in salvation but low value in the words of Jesus as they too were not motivated to seek spiritual knowledge (Matt 23)
